Scientists have proposed an explanation for the mysterious obesity epidemic that began back in the 1930s. According to the results of a study published in the journal Science Advanced, the cause may be the negative impact of social factors on the human psyche, rather than overeating itself.
According to Professor Emeritus Thorkild Sorensen from the University of Copenhagen, humans are evolutionarily adapted to cooperate in order to get food. If social interaction is hindered, however, it causes fear of hunger and leads the body to store extra fat as a defense.
