Researchers at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden have uncovered the benefits of a moderate low-carbohydrate diet for adults with type 1 diabetes. The results of the study were published in The Lancet Regional Health – Europe.
Experts analyzed data on 54 adults with insulin-dependent diabetes who were randomly assigned to a traditional diet and a moderate low-carbohydrate diet. Both diets included vegetables, fiber-rich sources of carbohydrates, unsaturated fats, nuts, seeds and legumes. Blood glucose levels were recorded every 15 minutes for 16 weeks.
