Wurst noted that the appearance of common vampires is not a threat in itself, but the rabies they carry could be a serious problem for farmers. These bats are also not believed to be a threat to humans, but the scientists said the likelihood of an attack is “not zero.”
During the research, Wurst and her colleagues used data on habitat changes of common vampires from 1901 to 2019.
Earlier it was reported that the Japanese government is not coping with the bear invasion, which has already become the deadliest in the country in the history of observations. In just six months – from April to October – 180 bear attacks on humans were recorded in the country.
